Weekend Writing Warriors: Snippet 194- Lisbet
ItβsΒ time forΒ Weekend Writing Warriors!Β Every Sunday, a bunch of writers post 8-10-sentence snippets from their WIPs on their blogs. Thereβs a lot of reading, commenting and great writing. Click on the link to see the full list.
I can’t say I’m getting much writing done right now. I’m finishing up beta reading my dad’s book, and then – thanks to my newly-gained access to an enormous university library- I have a bit more research to do before I get back to Sword of Destiny. I realize this might well be a case of research-as-procrastination, but right now it feels like a low-stress way to ease myself back into the story.
This week I’m continuing with Lisbet’s antics as she tries to figure out how to wrest away control of the crucial city of Ervard from an out-of-his-depth mercenary, Captain Barrera, originally appointed to hold the city by Anton.
βI will speak with the mayor and see if I can prevail upon her to bring her people in check,β Lisbet said.
“Iβm sure sheβs inciting the population against us. My soldiers canβt step into a brothel without being robbed and horses disappear from the stables no matter how strong a guard I set. Iβve been very kind, with public whippings for only the worst offendersββ
Lisbet nearly choked. Punishments of this sort were rare in Norovaea and whipping was reserved for violent criminals. Thieves might take a day in the stocks, or a few weeks in jail, depending on the offense. No wonder the locals here were outraged.
βIs that not correct?β Barrera said, looking uneas,. βCount Kronek said I shouldnβt execute anyone without talking to him first, but perhaps Iβm taking too soft an approach?β
βYou definitely are,β Lisbet said, regaining her composure, careful to hide her pleasure at the chance to sow some anarchy.

Oh, he has no idea what she has planned for him. Great snippet!
Thanks- he sure doesn’t!
Taking advantage of his naivete isn’t fair . . . and many the guys getting flogged would agree.
One thing she never does is play fair. It wouldn’t be any fun.
Can *I* flog Lisbet. I do not like her. I can see this causing a lot of trouble.
You can get in line. π A lot more trouble in store before this is over.
Oh she is nasty and he isn’t much better.
They’re more alike than they realize!
What a mess. Why can’t they just get along. Actually, there is always stress.
It would be hard for her to accomplish her objective if she just gets along. So, more trouble ahead!
Uh oh, the situation is going from bad to worse fast and she’s really only out for herself. The poor citizens of this place are really caught in the middle now. Enjoyed the snippet!
Yup, her agenda is really just all about her own ambitions.
Oh, sneaky little opportunist! π
Indeed! Hey, I wasn’t able to get to your blog today- I kept getting some kind of privacy error?
So, she wants to sow some anarchy… Remember what they say: Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
That’s what’ll happen eventually!
Yikes! She’s willing to execute a few citizens to further her plans? That’s pretty brutal.
Maybe. She’s actually more sympathetic toward the citizens than her so-called allies.
Oy, The backhanded dealings… Alexis said it right… π
Thanks!
This is one chick to avoid or take down. Nothing in-between. She is bad news incarnate.
She’s the one true villain in this series, so I’m piling on the bad news. π
Oooo those end lines give me all kinds of excited chills!
π
Sow some anarchy – awesome.
Tweeted.
Oh, these two. Not sure who I’m rooting for less lol. Also, your dad wrote a book? How cool is that?!
Neither one is very sympathetic. Itβs my dadβs second book! Itβs historical WW2 fiction based on the experiences of people he knew.
Clever girl. I bet he’ll bite too.
Oh dear. Already feeling sorry for Ervard’s poor citizens.
I feel for the citizens!
Thank you for breaking this down, it’s been incredibly helpful.
I’m continually impressed by your expertise.
