Weekend Writing Warriors: Snippet 129- Trystan
It’s time for Weekend Writing Warriors! Every Sunday, a bunch of writers post 8-10-sentence snippets from their WIPs on their blogs. There’s a lot of reading, commenting and great writing. Click on the link to see the full list.
Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate! I’m continuing with early chapters from Fall of the Titan. The cover is almost ready, so hopefully you’ll see it next week. Disguised as clerics on a pilgrimage, Trystan and Natalya are traveling through Galladium. Natalya has been gone from her post as maxima for nearly a year and is worried that the king might have replaced her. There’ve always been a lot of rumors about Natalya’s relationship with the king, and they have a daughter together, though Trystan doesn’t know that yet. I must say, this book has a lot of mushy-crushy puppy love in it,normally not at all my thing. Probably because 4 out of 8 POV characters are teens. Oh, the hormones! Edited to make sense in snippet form.
byNatalya frowned, “When I left Allaux, the king and I weren’t on the best terms.”
“Surely he wouldn’t displace you?” Then Trystan remembered, “No, he wouldn’t; when I spoke with him and the queen, he seemed very concerned for your safety. I doubt he’d feel that way if he no longer wanted you in power.”
“I’m not sure about that, since he has another reason for wanting me to remain unharmed.”
Trystan held his breath, waiting to hear why.
Natalya quirked a smile before continuing, clearly aware of his curiosity, “And he’s gone behind my back before. I will try not to expect the worst, but I must be prepared for it.”
“Tell me what I must do to help you,” Trystan said, annoyed at the lack of detail. He felt rather jealous of the king and wished Natalya would put his suspicions to rest.
Aw, Trystan, good luck with that one. 😉
He’s in for a few unpleasant surprises very soon!
Oh, I have the same suspicion as Trystan. Oh, but I know how he can help. 😉 Very intriguing!
He’s pretty much the last one to find out, poor guy!
Surprise! You have worked wonders with this snippet, Christina.
I guess he is right to be jealous.
Poor Trystan – he’s trying so hard. Great snippet.
Tweeted.
Interesting conversation they’re having and I too feel sorry for Trystan! Well done!
She’s playing it pretty close to the vest here. To lead him on or keep him safe?
A little of both. She enjoys toying with people.
Poor Trystan. He wants his questions answered so badly.
Politics can be a dangerous game–sounds like she knows how to keep her secrets. Probably better for her, but I get the feeling he’s going to get hurt!
He’ll know when it’s time for him to know. Which works out pretty well for him in the end.
I too feel a little sorry for Trystan. He may not like his answers once he gets them.
I feel a bit sorry for Trystan. Great snippet.
Poor Trystan. I can’t wait for this story though! 😀
Too many secrets! I think Tristan might be in for a big surprise.
precarious position. Love the tease.
This goes to show how even love can fester if left too long in the dark.
I feel sorry for Trystan, but maybe it’s best for him not to know. Looking forward to more.
