Weekend Writing Warriors: Snippet 38- Braeden
It’s time for Weekend Writing Warriors! Every Sunday, a bunch of writers post 8-10-sentence snippets from their WIPs on their blogs. There’s a lot of reading, commenting and great writing. Click on the link to see the full list.
It’s finally time for the verdict! Of course, that’s when the fun really begins  This is from chapter 41 or about 100, to give you an idea of where we are in the book. I’m doing the final edit! I think.
Braeden continues to have a front-row seat, thanks to his bodyguard position. The judge, Flavia Maxima, goes on for some time about how it’s obvious that Father Landrus is a good guy and everybody loves him. BUT, he still broke the rules, multiple times. First, she fires him from his priest-job, which would be a light punishment, considering. Flavia isn’t done, however. (Edited to fit, because even ten sentences aren’t enough to contain my long-windedness)
“While his words might seem reasonable to many of you, they are not part of The Faith. Even worse, many of them contradict our faith outright. And in that matter, I have no choice but to find Edric Landrus guilty of heresy.”
There was an uproar among the Kronland rulers and their retinues although Prince KendrykՉ۪s face remained white and set.
“However,” Flavia continued,. “this trial has been irregular from the beginning. In most cases, a verdict of heresy carries an automatic death sentence. Due to unusual circumstances, I wish to offer the guilty party a choice.” She turned to face Landrus, who still betrayed no emotion. Braeden wondered if he’d consider a military career, now he could no longer preach. He’d never seen a cooler head.
Personally, I think ex-Father Landrus would look good in armor, but then I refuse to create any male characters who wouldn’t. I’m biased that way.

LOL! I remember our conversation about been in armor! You are SO livin’ in the wrong time, girl! Do I see a time-travel book in your future? Can’t wait to see you in an hour and a half!!!
It was so great to see you! I don’t know what it is with me and armor. 😉 I could see a time-travel book happening some day. Let me add it to the list!
But…but…if all you male characters were to wear armor, how could you see their six-pack abs? Answer me that!
You raise a valid concern. They can’t wear armor all the time, so I can let the six-packs see the light from time to time. 🙂
A choice? From Flavia? Now this I have to hear.
Well, it won’t be a very good one, never fear!
Wooo. Well done.
Thank you!
Uh-oh. While better than an outright sentence of death, getting offered a choice by your prosecutors is rarely a good thing… ;D Great snippet, Christina!
Yes, the alternative is unlikely to be very appealing. Thank!
I love this snippet. A person’s faith is ever so important and to have a choice, unheard of. I could feel the uproar. Great job!
Thank you! Faith is exactly what will make the choice such a difficult one.
Oh man, what’s going to happen next?! I keep coming back wanting more! Great eight! 😀
Thank you!
Way to leave us hanging! I have to wonder about the choice and whether or not Landrus will except it. And then, if Theodora will except it. Very nice snippet.
The choice will of course be unpleasant, but Teodora’s role and reaction will be unexpected. I hope. 🙂
Very tense! I bet Landrus will have to complete some dangerous mission in order to get off the hook. Anxious to see if Landrus will accept. Great snippet!
You will just have to stop by next week to find out. (said in a mysterious voice with undefinable foreign accent)
Landrus for Emperor!! 😀
Now there’s an idea! *makes notes for fifth book* 😉
“Personally, I think ex-Father Landrus would look good in armor, but then I refuse to create any male characters who wouldn’t. I’m biased that way.” Laughed out loud at this.
I then realized that many of my female characters also look good in armor. Maybe I have a thing for armor. 🙂
Better than the death penalty. So what’s next. A cliffhanger as we wait ’til next week. Terrific suspense, Christina.
Thank you!
I’m guessing it won’t be a fun choice, but he will face it with calm.
Yeah, you generally don’t get a death-penalty reprieve in exchange for an enjoyable activity. Good call. 🙂
Cake or Death? 😉
Can’t wait to see what she offers him! I didn’t think the trial could turn out any other way, given Landrus’s attitude. I’ll be very curious to see what happens next. Great snippet.
Yes, he’s not the least bit contrite, which will continue to be a problem. 🙂
Oh my, I wonder what that choice will be. Great snippet filled with tension and intrigue!
Thanks, Tina!
