Bighorn Sheep are real!
After a life-time of looking for these elusive creatures, I finally saw some in the flesh, or the wool, as it were. I grew up near the Lava Beds National Monument and when I was a kid, there was a bighorn sheep preserve near there. We drove by there often t and I’d look for a glimpse of sheep, but always in vain. At some point, I believe they all died of DDT poisoning, or something similar. 🙁
So when I got in the truck and we frequently traversed the mountain west I figured it was only a matter of time, especially because we frequently saw road signs specifically warning of sheep.
But did I ever see one? No! My husband saw some once, while I was asleep, but by then it felt more like a Bigfoot sighting.
So yesterday, we were heading south out of Bozeman, Montana on US 191 when traffic came to a sudden stop on the outskirts of Big Sky. The reason for the hold-up? The elusive creatures themselves! And not just one; a whole clump-not sure if they were enough to be called a herd- of them! Just standing there while we crawled by at 5 mph. So I had time to get my phone out and figure out the video even! It made my whole day.

Cool! Your exuberance is infectious! lol
I couldn’t watch the video. Screen said it was either no longer there, or I didn’t have permission to view it!
I had the same problem, Teresa. Now I am itching to troll the ‘net for “Bighorn encounters”😃
I fixed the link. Hopefully it works now!
Very cool Christina! I love it when we come face to face with wildness in this crazy world.
Oh my word! Brazen little critters, aren’t they! Didn’t seem to even be bothered by the traffic. Cool! Do even the females have those horns?
I was amazed- they didn’t seem very fearful at all; more annoyed that we were in their path. Apparently the females have horns too, though they’re smaller.
