Camp Update: Halfway!
So far, April has not been a good month for me. Right at the end of March, my husband and I both came down with an awful flu that laid us out for a week. Even once we felt better, it took another week before the persistent cough and fatigue finally went away. In that time, I did get some writing done, just not very much. I finally feel like I’m on track again, but only for the past few days. I’m trying to do a series of 5,000 word days until I’m caught up to where I need to be.
But now that we’re feeling better, the universe is throwing a bunch of other crap our way. A whole flurry of things suddenly went wrong with the truck, and right now we’re stuck in Florida, looking at some really expensive repairs we’d really rather not do here. We just don’t know how far we can get without doing them. I already spent two days sitting in crowded waiting rooms of Freightliner dealerships. In theory, I could get some writing done in those places. In reality, the tv is blaring, truckers are snoring, and/or telling tall tales, loudly. I’m not optimistic.
Fortunately for Camp, we have until the 20th to adjust our wordcount goals. I think there’s still a chance I can make 75K, but considering I just passed 25K tonight, I have a lot of work to do. In a few days, I’ll figure out how much I have left to finish the book and then see how close I can get by the end of the month. I’m getting close to the 3/4 mark, but the long middle just keeps getting longer. So much plot!
At least I’m still having fun and my cabin is awesome. Watching everyone else get so much done is very motivating.

Well I’ve seen you pull off the impossible before! Go get ’em, girlfriend!
I’m inclined to just go for it. I might try to figure out how many words are needed to finish the book, but the way it’s going right now, it’s very hard to say. Too many unexpected subplots!
No, I take it all back. I’ve decided I MIGHT be able to finish the book in 30k words or so, and adjusted my goal down accordingly to “only” 55K. I’d rather overshoot. 🙂
