Weekend Writing Warriors: Snippet 156- Elektra

It’s time for Weekend Writing Warriors! Every Sunday, a bunch of writers post 8-10-sentence snippets from their WIPs on their blogs. There’s a lot of reading, commenting and great writing. Click on the link to see the full list.

More from Blood of the Empire. Be sure to check out the shiny new cover below the snippet! Elektra has been working with Brynhild Mattila to rebuild Teodora’s army. But she’s found the general evasive when it comes to concrete plans. So Elektra goes to one of Mattila’s subordinates, General Orsino Scarpati, to find out if he knows what’s going on.

Elektra said, “I’d like to get your honest opinion on our situation.”

Scarpati regarded her shrewdly, “Is Mattila’s not to your satisfaction?”

“I find her strangely passive,” Elektra said, hoping to get more from Scarpati; maybe she wasn’t imagining things.

“She’s not used to losing,” Scarpati said,“I’m sure it’s a new experience for her and she doesn’t know quite what to do. I on the other hand, am used to the occasional setback.” He offered a wry smile, and Elektra found herself liking the man more and more.

“Me too,” Elektra smiled back. “It builds character, I’ve been told.”

Scarpati chuckled. It made him jiggle all over, and Elektra couldn’t hold back a giggle herself.

    • I forgot to mention, when I clicked on your link at WWW it gave me a message that the page wasn’t secure and might be a phishing site. Don’t know if you did anything different this time?

    • Elektra is such a fun character for me to write as she very gradually comes into her own.

My cover artist is Ida Jansson at Amygdala Designs. She’s affordable and great to work with- highly recommend!

  1. Enjoyed the snippet – and that cover is absolutely gorgeous! Love it! (I admit I do have a weakness for long auburn hair, but even if I didn’t, I’d still think your cover is stunning!)

  2. I love the cover.
These two seems to have something that will make Mattila go nuts if they stick together against her. I wonder why she never lost, was she so spoiled that everyone let her win all the time?
