Weekend Writing Warriors: Snippet 154- Teodora

It’s time for Weekend Writing Warriors! Every Sunday, a bunch of writers post 8-10-sentence snippets from their WIPs on their blogs. There’s a lot of reading, commenting and great writing. Click on the link to see the full list.

Sorry I missed last week. My husband had unexpected shoulder surgery and we were really scrambling for a few days. Everything went fine and he’s recovering pretty well, though he’ll be home at least six weeks. So I’ve increased my work hours, making writing time harder to find. I’m still inching toward the end of this book, though!

We’re back with Teodora, still being forced to recover from her bout with insanity. She’s decided to send for her old friend, Livilla Maxima, who arrives very quickly. Teodora is feeling put upon and starts complaining about her situations immediately.

“There’s no one I can rely on, except you.”

Livilla cocked her head. “Not even Elektra?”

“Especially not Elektra,” Teodora snapped. “She botched the situation in Isenwald, and I’m still not certain she wasn’t in cahoots with the enemy. Even though Princess Viviane ended up in power again, I suspect it wasn’t meant to turn out that way.” When Livilla said nothing, she continued. “And then she joined with Mattila in forcing my abdication. Oh, and she married Jozef Mattila. I can’t possibly trust her.”

  1. Author Jessica E. Subject says:

Teodora’s attitude reminds me of the Queen Dowager in a drama I’ve been watching. Well done! 😄

  2. Ed Hoornaert says:

If anyone deserves a bout of madness, it’s Teodora

  3. Fallon says:

Teodora not trusting someone makes me want to trust them more. 😉

  4. Jenna Jaxon says:

I bet Livilla is beginning to regret that she came! I wonder if Teodora will let her get a word (or advice) in edgewise?

  5. Quite the list of grievances LOL. I can just hear her spouting them off in a very aggrieved tone – well done snippet for sure! I’m glad to hear your husband is doing better!

  6. Hywela Lyn says:

Not very fond of Elektra at the moment is she! 🙂 Great snippet, I could almost see the sparks flying as Teodora spouts her tirade!

  7. Oh, poor Teodo…Wait. I’d like to feel sorry for her, but just can’t find it. 🙂

  8. daryldevore says:

    Oooh – someone’s a bit angry. Tweeted.

  9. Alexis Duran says:

I find it rather amusing that Teodora could expect loyalty from anyone, after all she’s done. She’s a great character.

  10. I suspect she’s correct not to trust Elektra. But, can she really trust anyone?

  11. Teodora’s saucy as ever I see… 😉

  12. naomi shaw says:

Seems like Elektra is totally untrustworthy. Great snippet

  13. Diane Burton says:

Teodora has learned nothing. This excerpt reveals a lot about the woman. Glad ot hear your husband is recovering well.

  14. nancygideon says:

Sounds like quite the laundry list. Ummm, any of the complaints deserved?

  15. elainecsc2013 says:

Theodora is still the same old person she always was. Some people never learn.

  16. Eden says:

Sounds like a lot of past … history is burning at Teodora’s heart.

  17. Karen Michelle Nutt says:

Teodora doesn’t seem to trust anyone. I’m curious to know if her reasons for not trusting them are legit.

  18. I’m wondering if she has truly recovered, she still sounds pretty insane and paranoid to me.
