Weekend Writing Warriors: Snippet 152- Braeden
It’s time for Weekend Writing Warriors! Every Sunday, a bunch of writers post 8-10-sentence snippets from their WIPs on their blogs. There’s a lot of reading, commenting and great writing. Click on the link to see the full list.
Continuing with Blood of the Empire, which is so, so close to being done! Braeden is still in Norovaea, since King Arryk has asked him to stay for his wedding, and he’s there when the bride arrives.
byLuzyana was only nineteen and her soft, round face made her look younger. She had large dark eyes, a wide mouth, and a hint of dimples when she smiled at one of her ladies.
Braeden glanced at Arryk, looking stern and unhappy, but clearly working to put on a more inviting expression. Braeden felt sorry for him, but even more for the little girl in the huge dress, making her way toward them. Arryk was so tall, stern and forbidding, she had to be terrified.
Luzyana and Arryk advanced on each other while Braeden admired her composure. She first sank into a deep curtsy, stiff skirts rustling loudly as her ladies followed her lead. Then she stood up straight, offering Arryk her hands and a brilliant smile.
“Your Highness, it’s so good to meet you at last,” she said in surprisingly good Norovaean— better than Braeden’s—though it still held a strong foreign accent.
“And you,” Arryk said, returning her smile as though he couldn’t help himself.
It’s nice to see how Arryk’s mood changed. Well done! 🙂
It would seem this marriage has a chance at happiness . . . maybe.
Very nice snippet, Christina. Good luck on finishing! Write, write like the wind! 🙂
A promising beginning for sure. They both seem determined to make this situation work…I always enjoy your snippets 🙂
A lovely beginning for the two. Lets see what happens next.
Love “the little girl in the huge dress”. Says so much about her situation. As usual with your characters, I’m sure there’s a lot more to her than meets the eye.
The descriptions give such wonderful insight into the characters. Great scene, Christina!
Hmm, it will be interesting to see how their relationship progresses!
Well, maybe she is a better match for him than Braeden expects.
Aw, they’re cute. I hope it works out for them. (and I really like the fact that though Braeden thinks she might be scared, she doesn’t act like it).
Good. He seems to have come around at last. Perhaps he will give the marriage a chance now. Great snippet!
So anxious to see you finish this. Is there going to be one more after it? I can’t remember what you said.
Hope I can make it happen in the next week or two. It’s the last one in the series! A shorter sequel series will be coming soon after, since I’m not quite ready to let go of all the characters 😀
Could there be happiness in the future? Great snippet.
This snippet ended up so much more positively than I was expecting – great characterisation!
So far so good.
Couldn’t help but smile- that’s good. Tweeted.
Interesting physical contrasts… but maybe they’re more suited on the inside. One can hope!
They’ll turn out to be surprisingly compatible- with dire consequences
It’s more fun that way! 🙂
