Weekend Writing Warriors: Snippet 117- Sonya
It’s time for Weekend Writing Warriors! Every Sunday, a bunch of writers post 8-10-sentence snippets from their WIPs on their blogs. There’s a lot of reading, commenting and great writing. Click on the link to see the full list.
Since my WIP is proceeding much too slowly, I’ll give you a bit more of The Forsaken Crown today. Sonya had a somewhat friendly meeting with Andrei Danko, an officer working for Teodora, also in possession of a large, impressive hat. Now the two armies have made camp together and Sonya has a date! Captain Danko just picked her up from her tent and is telling her where they’re going. Edited from the published version.
by“My superior officer is hosting a little supper in his tent; he told us all to make a new friend and bring them.”
“I’m glad you thought of me.” Sonya tucked her hands into her pockets and smiled at Captain Danko, matching his stride as they crossed the road to the Olvisyan camp.
“I’ve thought of nothing else since we met,” Danko said, “I’ve never seen anyone appear so striking in military garb.”
“Kind of you to say so.” Sonya grinned. She didn’t believe a word, but it was still nice to hear.
She looked at Captain Danko out of the corner of her eye. He was about her height, though the hat made him seem taller, and he moved with an easy swagger. Nobility most like, and too good for her, but she’d enjoy his company while it lasted.
What a smooth talker…Lol.
He might actually back it up with actions!
Flattery will get him everywhere it seems. Great snippet.
Thank you! He’s certainly going to try!
I really like how she doesn’t believe his words, but goes anyway. It’s a fun excerpt. 🙂
She doesn’t go on many dates, so she’s determined to enjoy herself.
A date? This is quite a switch from your usual fare.
I know! This book has at least 2-3 pages of romance. I don’t know what happened to me.
Definitely a smooth talker. Not sure that means he should be trusted, though.
She definitely doesn’t trust him yet, but that won’t stop her from enjoying the smooth talk. 🙂
*perks* A date?! Yay! I love the bit of flirtation already. Hope there’s more to come! 🙂
Yes, who woulda thought!
Charming. I like this snippet with the flirtacious air.
Thank you! It’s rare for my characters to get much romance, so they’re always happy when it happens. 🙂
They seem to be hitting it off pretty well. That’ll add some spice to things 🙂
Marcia
It’s time our girl had a little fun. 😉
Sure – why not let them have fun!
I love her matter-of-fact approach to romance. Fun scene!
She’s definitely not the mushy sort.
Nice flirting.
I like her attitude, I love the concept of a ‘date’ in this world and time frame – just a cool snippet altogether!
Thanks! She needs a few light moments before serious trouble comes her way.
I hope he can surprise her and make a better impression. Sounds like he aiming for that.
Eventually, he will make an excellent impression in a way she won’t expect!
She makes a fast assessment of him. 🙂 And I really like her attitude, equal to the men around her. 🙂
Is there romance in the air? lol Enjoyed the snippet and can’t wait to find out.
Yes! Which is very strange for me.
I like her attitude. Enjoy his company while it lasts. I hope it leads to more. Nice job.
Thank you!
Hmm. Maybe there’s a romance brewing?
Could be!
Loved how dispassionately she assesses him. I wonder if anything will happen between them, or does she move on because he’s “too good” for her?
He’s going to make it hard for her to move on. 😀
Is he saying he likes how she fills out her uniform? I think he is. 😀 He might be sincere, he did decide to make her his ‘new friend,’ after all.
He sincerely likes the way she fills out her uniform!
So sweet – the way she tucks her hands into her pockets – such a perfect little detail. Tweeted.
Thank you!
It’s good to go with the flow, but I wonder if she’s as dispassionate as she pretends.
She’s pretty excited, but has a tendency not to show her feelings.
Sonya and Danko are great together. Love it!
Love Sonya’s attitude. Nice interlude, Christina. Looking forward to the date. 😉
Thank you!
A nice little touch of romance. I like a man with a little swagger (but not too much!) Sorry I’m late this week. My life is a little manic right now.
I like her confidence.She doesn’t believe his flattery but…
