Happy New Year everyone! It’s nice to be back. The holidays were fun, but pretty stressful, mostly because we had to cross multiple snow-covered mountain ranges to reach our Christmas destination. I love snow, but at this point I’m kind of tired of looking at it, and putting traction devices on and off and on and off again. We got to our destination  with some trouble, and got out with a little more, but we had a good time in between and now life is more or less back to normal. I’m only mildly freaking out about the Valley of the Shadow launch on January 15, but that’s normal, isn’t it?

So, back to Valley of the Shadow. Every since Kendryk’s big defeat, Gwynneth has held his castle against Teodora’s besieging army. Edric, the priest who started all of the trouble is in the castle with her, and they are on less than friendly terms since Edric exposed Gwynneth’s affair with Arian Orland. Gwynneth hasn’t been feeling well and Edric correctly guesses she’s pregnant. (edited to fit)

Gwynneth stared. It seemed impossible to keep any secrets from him.

“I would offer congratulations, but I’m not sure … ”

“You may,” Gwynneth said, “and I’m sure it’s Kendryk’s.”

“You are?”

“You are unbelievably insolent.” She paused and took a deep breath, knowing it did no good to lose her temper with him. “And yes, I’m sure although I needn’t explain myself to you, so I won’t be sharing any details.”

“No, no of course not; I meant no offense.”

“Somehow I doubt that.”

  1. Yeah, I doubt that, too. This is an interesting twist to the story, Christina!

I’m glad you ha a good Christmas break with family time. 🙂 Happy New Year. 🙂

  2. Yes, freaking out before a release is perfectly normal. I think it would be weird not to! Great snippet. I really enjoy the way these two maneuver around each other. The fact that they’re stuck together understand siege promises some real fireworks.

  3. Yup. The snippet definitely summarizes their relationship. While I want to believe the baby would be Kendryk’s… I can’t help but think it isn’t! Gah! So excited to start reading it!

  4. LOVE the last sentence, and her comment about not sharing the details…although I wonder if it might have stopped him if she did that with the thoroughness and impassivity of a Vulcan…

Eager to see what’s next in this close-quarters detente!
