Weekend Writing Warriors: Snippet 62- Gwynneth

WWWParisIt’s time for Weekend Writing Warriors! Every Sunday, a bunch of writers post 8-10-sentence snippets from their WIPs on their blogs. There’s a lot of reading, commenting and great writing. Click on the link to see the full list.

I was going to get y’all up to speed on what Braeden and Janna are doing,  but a few of you implied last week that you wouldn’t look kindly upon being left hanging for very long. Since I aim to please (when I feel like it), I’ll give you some of the fallout after Kendryk discovered Arian Orland in his wife’s bedroom. Father Landrus informs him that the affair has been going on for a while, but Gwynneth really was trying to end it (though only after Landrus told her she’d better)  Kendryk decides to banish Arian, even though he’s his only ally, and send Gwynneth back to her father. Gwynneth is feeling repentant, but Kendrk isn’t in the mood.

The coldness of his voice frightened her. She wondered what it was costing him to be so hard and calm., if it was costing him anything.

When she raised her eyes he was still not looking at her. “Will you ever be able to forgive me?”

“I’m not sure,” he said. “Right now I’m confused and angry and shocked so it’s very hard to think straight.”

“Perhaps we should wait a few days before I go. Perhaps you’ll change your. ..”

“No,” he said, his voice harsh. “You’re going today.”.

I thought this was a great scene.

  2. Kim Magennis says:

Oh dear! What was she thinking? This is going to make life very hard for Kendryk.

  3. Wow, that was demanding. Hm, we’ll see what happens. I love the dialogue here. 🙂

  4. nancygideon says:

Great tension between the characters. Makes you want more.

  5. The motto is”when you’re married don’t cheat on your mate.” So out she goes, painful as it is. Terrific scene!

  6. Amalie says:

Lovely as always, my dear! I’ve got a lot of catching up to do! As soon as I have time to do it. *groans*

  7. This kinda crushed me when I was reading it. I loved the relationship with Kendryk and Gwennyth, and while I *kinda* understand her motives, she should have known it would come back to bite her in the butt. This was a great scene though– so many feels!

  8. Alexis Duran says:

I have to admit I like Kendryk when he’s being “so hard and calm”. And she certainly deserved it. Really great scene.

  9. Frank Fisher says:

Great tension-building! The last line was the most tense for me!

  10. I sure agree with those who love this scene! She probably should have known better, but we all do things that we should have known better not to do. I feel for both of them!

  11. Evelyn Jules says:

Wonderful scene! I really feel for Kendryk, and you write his emotion so well. It won’t be so easy for her to win his respect or trust.

  12. Sounds like he’s hurt, and can’t wait to get away from her. Great way to reveal his emotions, Christina.

  13. erinszoo says:

Great scene! Lots of emotional angst without a lot of drama. Very well done!

  14. She’s got a bit of a point that making decisions when you’re so upset tends to end badly. On the other hand, what the heck was she thinking!?

  15. Well I say good for him, and she seems kind of clueless about the fact one doesn’t just lightly have an affair! Enjoyed the excerpt, nice depiction of the emotions.

  16. Poor Kendryk. Sometimes I think Father Landrus is the only person he can trust…

And thanks for not letting us hanging! (Sort of) 😉

  17. I can appreciate his feelings

  18. jessicahanna says:

Writing while traveling in your semi? You are my type of writer! I aim to spend at least half the year writing while traveling in my RV! And, thanks for the snippet! Away she goes…

  19. Mari says:

Now that is putting one’s foot DOWN. Even without the description, the shortness of Kendryk’s replies gave me indication of how angry he was. Fabulous snippet!
