Weekend Writing Warriors: Snippet 47- Braeden

weekend writing warriorsIt’s time for Weekend Writing Warriors! Every Sunday, a bunch of writers post 8-10-sentence snippets from their WIPs on their blogs. There’s a lot of reading, commenting and great writing. Click on the link to see the full list.

I was going to continue with Janna’s adventures from last week, but what happens to her and Anton is really depressing and I’m feeling kind of down these days. I think it’s the extremely hot weather and non-stop allergies. So I thought it would be a lot more fun to join Braeden for another one of Empress Teodora’s tantrums. She’s just found out that Kendryk rescued Landrus, and she’s not taking it very well. Edited to fit.

“Get away from me, all of you!” Teodora shouted. “I can’t stand the sight of you.” She suddenly spurred her horse into the forest.

“Best keep an eye on her,” Count Solteszy told Braeden. “We don’t want to lose her in the woods, though you should keep your distance, just in case.”

Braeden followed Teodora until he watched her dismount and demolish several small trees and bushes with her sword. She only stopped when it got stuck in the bark of a large oak tree, then she yanked on the hilt until she slumped against the tree in exhaustion. When it seemed safe, Braeden rode up and pulled it out, then helped her back on her horse. She was silent all the way back to the road.

Kendryk is in sooo much trouble!

    • I love him so much! I still wish I could have written the whole book from his pov. I’m torturing him in the second book right now, and I really hate myself for it. Maybe that’s part of why my mood is rotten. 🙂

  1. Kendra is one mad woman with that sword. I enjoyed the action, and feeling her frustration. Calen’s right – Braedon’s a great guy. Don’t torture him too much, Christina!

  2. Allergies are NO FUN and have had me down here in Oklahoma, too. I hope you feel better. I love the imagery of her fit . . . sounds like my son Logan, slaying “dragons” in the backyard by chopping trees with a stick 🙂

    • Oklahoma is the worst for allergies, I think. You have my sympathies. I also thought of a kid playing with a “sword,” since T’s tantrums tend to be on the childish side. 🙂

  3. Whew! What a temper. 🙂

Sorry you’re feeling down. Weather can have such an affect. And allergies are such rotten things! Hope you feel better soon. 🙂

  4. I love this scene! Theodora is an awesome character, even if she does commit random acts of herbicide. (I started the book and am really enjoying it. Finally I don’t have to stop reading after eight lines!)

  5. Summer sinus troubles are the worst–feel better!

I hope Teodora appreciates Braeden. I don’t like her, but I do wonder what it is about her that has earned his loyalty . . .

  6. Nice, I could see the sword getting stuck in the tree. Great description. 🙂 Hoping you feel better. My eyes have been terribly puffy as well. This season is really irritating to me, though I love the heat as opposed to snow. 🙂

  7. He’s smart to keep his distance while she’s blazing away with that sword. It’s too bad about the trees and bushes, but at least she’s not using that sword against any humans.

  8. I’m actually astounded by the restraint Teodora shows here. And the fact that her officers watch her carefully from a distance… I’ve been thinking of how unlikable she is, but she’s actually quite cute (don’t tell her I said that, please? I’m not a small tree, and don’t want to be treated like one).
