Weekend Writing Warriors: Snippet 34- Gwynneth
It’s time for Weekend Writing Warriors! Every Sunday, a bunch of writers post 8-sentence snippets from their WIPs on their blogs. There’s a lot of reading, commenting and great writing. Click on the link to see the full list.
I’m continuing with my nearly-completed WIP: Rise of the Storm. Yes, I finally came up with a title!
Now that Kendryk and Teodora have reached a temporary agreement, the trial of Father Landrus commences. Kendryk is a nervous wreck and Teodora shows up already ticked off, but Gwynneth is excited, and curious to see how it all plays out. Flavia Maxima is the temple official who will preside over the trial.
Next, Flavia asked Father Landrus if he understood the charges against him.
“I do, Your Holiness,” he said, “but please make note that I disagree with them and question your authority to try my case in the sight of the gods.” His sonorous voice rang through the temple, so everyone heard and there was a collective gasp at his audacity. The Maxima raised her eyebrows and the red spots on Teodora’s cheeks returned. Perhaps she would explode after all.
“Are you quite finished?” Flavia asked.
“For now,” Landrus said. Gwynneth was pleased that he hadn’t lost his nerve.

Oh that woman does like to mix it up, doesn’t she!
Yes, half the fun is never knowing what she’s going to do.
I love this line: “Perhaps she would explode after all.”
Nice! Oh, the audacity indeed! Go Father Landrus! 🙂
Hey, nice title! ;D “…question your authority to try my case in the sight of the gods.” Love it!
Thanks! I agonized over the title for months, and when I finally thought of it I wondered why it took so long.
I like Father Landrus:D
So do I! Actually, so does everyone unless they’re trying to kill him.
Father Landrus is awesome, and the “perhaps she would explode after all” is priceless and made me chuckle. Great work, as always!
Everyone is anxiously awaiting a public imperial tantrum.
Risk taking here. I do expect explosions at any moment. Excellent eight.
This promises to be a very entertaining trial. Can’t wait to read the whole thing! Great title, btw.
He was in trouble anyway, I know… but I think he’s digging his grave deeper!
Some people just don’t know when to quit!
Awesome eight, Christina! Can’t wait to see if she explodes 🙂
Thanks! It would be so much fun for everyone. 🙂
If I’d been wondering why he was on trial, this would have explained it!
I also think that giving Teodora an aneurysm might be the best thing Landrus ever does for the people of his country. 😀
Well, he’s certainly gonna try!
Hm, Gwynneth seems to be a little bit of a trouble stirrer;). Interesting development that leaves me curious to see how the trial will continue for the good Father. Great 8!
Thanks! Yes, she doesn’t mind a bit of trouble if it advances her goals.
I thoroughly enjoy the reactions the characters have to each other. Father Landrus is awesome in this trial so far, can’t wait for more of his carefully worded statements! Excellent excerpt, love your title too.
He’s not going to take this lying down, is he? Nice show of character!
Nice work, you can feel that crisp air as everyone gasps. Great eight!
