Weekend Writing Warriors: Snippet 34- Gwynneth

It’s time for Weekend Writing Warriors! Every Sunday, a bunch of writers post 8-sentence snippets from their WIPs on their blogs. There’s a lot of reading, commenting and great writing. Click on the link to see the full list.

I’m continuing with my nearly-completed WIP: Rise of the Storm. Yes, I finally came up with a title!

Now that Kendryk and Teodora have reached a temporary agreement, the trial of Father Landrus commences. Kendryk is a nervous wreck and Teodora shows up already ticked off, but Gwynneth is excited, and curious to see how it all plays out. Flavia Maxima is the temple official who will preside over the trial.

Next, Flavia asked Father Landrus if he understood the charges against him.

“I do, Your Holiness,” he said, “but please make note that I disagree with them and question your authority to try my case in the sight of the gods.” His sonorous voice rang through the temple, so everyone heard and there was a collective gasp at his audacity. The Maxima raised her eyebrows and the red spots on Teodora’s cheeks returned. Perhaps she would explode after all.

“Are you quite finished?” Flavia asked.

“For now,” Landrus said. Gwynneth was pleased that he hadn’t lost his nerve.

  1. Hey, nice title! ;D “…question your authority to try my case in the sight of the gods.” Love it!

  2. If I’d been wondering why he was on trial, this would have explained it!

I also think that giving Teodora an aneurysm might be the best thing Landrus ever does for the people of his country. 😀

  3. Hm, Gwynneth seems to be a little bit of a trouble stirrer;). Interesting development that leaves me curious to see how the trial will continue for the good Father. Great 8!

  4. I thoroughly enjoy the reactions the characters have to each other. Father Landrus is awesome in this trial so far, can’t wait for more of his carefully worded statements! Excellent excerpt, love your title too.
