Weekend Writing Warriors: Snippet 9- Braeden
It’s time for Weekend Writing Warriors! Every Sunday, a bunch of writers post 8-sentence snippets from their WIPs on their blogs. There’s a lot of reading, commenting and great writing. Click on the link to see the full list.
This week, we’re back with Braeden, who’s helped restore order in the city of Kaleva and is now patrolling the countryside, looking for any remaining rebels. He just finished searching a town in which the citizenry were uncommonly friendly and cooperative only to hear a bit later that the town has been attacked and burned by bandits of some sort.. Braeden and his soldiers are too late to save the town, but they catch some of the marauders.
Captain Torresia joined them, a body draped over his saddle. “You have terrible luck,” he said, dumping it onto the ground in front of Braeden. “Seems we’ve caught the Empress’s pet.”
“Are you sure?” The girl laying on the ground looked rather peaceful, with black curls spread out around a sweet, pale face.
“Just wait until she opens her eyes.”
“I doubt she will- she looks dead.”
“It’d take more than a wallop with my hammer to finish off this bitch. They say she’s part wolf and can’t be killed.”
There might be another snippet or two from this chapter, since Braeden is about to have a serious problem.
Previous snippets are here.

Ooh, I’m liking this. I want to know more about this girl, is she really part wolf, and if so, what’s going to happen when she wakes up?
Thanks! She’ll probably wake up next week. 🙂
A woman that’s part wolf and can’t be killed…that’s new to me. I’m wondering what will happen when she wakes up too! Good snippet!
Well, that’s what everyone claims . . . we shall see!
Look forward to it.
This makes me so happy! Love the complication and can’t wait to meet her for real.
Yay for wolf girls! Even though they’re scary. 🙂
Now the girl is one fascinating character and I hope there’ll be complications between her and Braeden! Excellent excerpt!
I’m sure she’ll do what she can to make his life miserable. It’s practically her job!
Sounding good, sounding good! How far along are you with this WIP?
I think I’m about 6-8 weeks away from a completed third draft. If I can stop deleting and adding plot lines that is. At that point, I plan to get it to a few beta readers to see if it makes any sense. 🙂
Intriguing snippet. I really want to know more about her and the big problem he’s about to have;).
Oh wonderful! It opens up all sorts of things. I love that she looks so gentle but is hard to kill, opposites make for really interesting characters!! Great* as usual!! <3
Thank you! It’s all good until she opens her eyes. 🙂
